Volunteer and Market Yourself…Remarkably

“Remarkable Marketable Mehelps you share your remarkable gifts volunteering, making you more marketable along the way.

By Jean Robb

I didn’t have the best childhood. We didn’t have much, so if you needed something you had to find a way to get it. I started working at 11 years old selling candy door to door. I know very scary right, but at 11 years old all I knew was I had to sell a certain amount of candy before I could go home. When I knocked on a door, out came my foot and I didn’t move it until you bought a box of candy. The skills I learned from my difficult childhood, (my lemons) really became a blessing (my lemonade).

I learned at a really young age that persistence will open many doors. As an adult I have walked out on a stage with a tiger after Zig Ziglar and talked to over 2,000 people about overcoming their fears. I know you must be thinking…a tiger? I have volunteered for over 15 years with big cat sanctuaries and have learned you can do something you really love while helping others in remarkable ways. In today’s economy you hear lots of people say they can’t find a job. So what happens?

The longer you’re out of work, you start to lose your contacts. You’re not keeping up with the day-to-day changes in your trade. You’re simply out of the loop. The longer you’re in this position the more the fear sets in. What if I can’t find a job? I have so much to offer, how do I get someone to talk to me? Well as you can see, fear can really take a hold of you, it makes you feel like a deer in the headlights. How do you overcome these things?

First off, STOP listening to the FEAR and STOP making EXCUSES. Look, I’ve made many of the same excuses when I’ve let fear be a part of my life. I now realize that the answer to overcoming the fear is to replace it with remarkable things you can be proud of. Instead of asking why would anyone want to hire me, ask yourself why not me?

After volunteering you could say. Look at the change I’ve made in the lives of others. Look what I’ve learned along the way. Look at the skills I’ve been taught while helping others. Look at the great people I’ve met. They’ve seen first hand the type of passion I put into any job I take on. So how will this work? I have made a commitment to bring you a volunteering opportunity at least once a week. The process of volunteering can be more complicated than people may think.

Email me your news. I have included in each story all the information I received and the direct contacts to make it really easy for you to get your foot in the door.Network, Network, Network” See how you can use that experience to build your resume. Most of all how did you feel about helping others today.

My goal is to get you to share with all of us your experience. Think about how much we can learn from each other. Please email me your pictures and story to remarkablemarketableme@gmail.com so I can post them each day. I will add the trademarks, video and links for you.

Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon has combined determination, hard work and decades of experience to achieve an unparalleled roster of victories. Three Daytona 500 wins, Four Brickyard 400 wins, along with numerous other victories and pole positions make Jeff a leader in the sport of racing. Off the track, Jeff, his wife, Ingrid, daughter Ella and son Leo split their time between Manhattan and Charlotte, North Carolina. Thankful for his healthy child and his successful career, Jeff seeks to help children gain their own victories over pediatric cancer as well as supporting the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital in Concord, NC through the work of The Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation. Jeff began supporting organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society early in his career. The diagnosis of his crew chief’s (Ray Evernham) son in 1992 inspired Jeff to establish his foundation in hopes of helping children facing critical illness to realize their dreams. What had started as a small project driven by one special child has grown into an organization that has raised more than $11 million for children’s charities.
The Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation
The mission of The Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation is to support children battling cancer by funding programs that improve patients’ quality of life, treatment programs that increase survivorship and pediatric medical research dedicated to finding a cure.
In addition the Foundation provides support to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital in Concord, NC which serves children in the community by providing a high level of primary and specialty pediatric care.
Our Vision
Each child is special and deserves a healthy life that is full of possibilities.  Our vision is there will be a day when no child will face the uncertainty of cancer, and that successful treatments will not result in negative, long-term effects.
In addition, we envision that the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital will forever serve as a model to other communities who want to provide the highest level of care to all of their children, regardless of their ability to pay.

Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital

The hospital currently treats pediatric patients from birth to age 18 in a peaceful, serene environment with a nature theme. Small details within the design such as water features, texture and color help promote an enhanced healing environment and assist in decreasing the stress and anxiety for pediatric patients and their families. After meeting hundreds of kids through visits to children's Hospitals and granting wishes through Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jeff was searching for a way to give back to the children in his own community. In May 2005, Carolinas Medical Center — NorthEast (then known as NorthEast Medical Center) approached Jeff and The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation with a unique opportunity to give back to the local community through the establishment of a children’s hospital. Jeff and his Foundation focused on building a children’s hospital that would provide highly specialized treatment using state-of-the-art equipment. The hospital setting would be a nurturing, healing environment, staffed by the most talented and caring medical professionals in the area. Construction of the hospital took a year and- a-half to complete, opening its doors to patients in December of 2006. The Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital provides the highest level of primary and specialty pediatric care, including: cardiology, endocrinology, oncology, neurology, pulmonology and several other specialties. The hospital includes a 28-bed pediatric floor, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the Pediatric Pavilion, which offers subspecialty pediatric patient care. The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation is proud to support a quality healthcare facility dedicated to compassionate care and excellence for children. "Our relationship with The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation has been ideal," said Adam Cook, NorthEast Foundation Executive Director. "It has been a true partnership in every sense of the word. Their commitment to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital and the patients we serve has afforded our medical center with necessary equipment and state-of-the-art technology. We are truly grateful for their ongoing support and involvement." On the pediatric floor you will find twenty-eight infant, child and adolescent patient rooms also included as part of the children’s hospital is the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and the Pediatric Pavilion. The Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital is located just a few short miles from Hendrick Motorsports. By having a children’s hospital with highly specialized care in the community it allow pediatric patients and their families to remain close to home rather than having to travel outside the region to receive care. With this priority in mind The Jeff Gordon Foundation and the hospital will continue to work together to ensure that all pediatric patients receive the highest quality of care possible both now and in the future.
