Volunteer and Market Yourself…Remarkably

“Remarkable Marketable Mehelps you share your remarkable gifts volunteering, making you more marketable along the way.

By Jean Robb

I didn’t have the best childhood. We didn’t have much, so if you needed something you had to find a way to get it. I started working at 11 years old selling candy door to door. I know very scary right, but at 11 years old all I knew was I had to sell a certain amount of candy before I could go home. When I knocked on a door, out came my foot and I didn’t move it until you bought a box of candy. The skills I learned from my difficult childhood, (my lemons) really became a blessing (my lemonade).

I learned at a really young age that persistence will open many doors. As an adult I have walked out on a stage with a tiger after Zig Ziglar and talked to over 2,000 people about overcoming their fears. I know you must be thinking…a tiger? I have volunteered for over 15 years with big cat sanctuaries and have learned you can do something you really love while helping others in remarkable ways. In today’s economy you hear lots of people say they can’t find a job. So what happens?

The longer you’re out of work, you start to lose your contacts. You’re not keeping up with the day-to-day changes in your trade. You’re simply out of the loop. The longer you’re in this position the more the fear sets in. What if I can’t find a job? I have so much to offer, how do I get someone to talk to me? Well as you can see, fear can really take a hold of you, it makes you feel like a deer in the headlights. How do you overcome these things?

First off, STOP listening to the FEAR and STOP making EXCUSES. Look, I’ve made many of the same excuses when I’ve let fear be a part of my life. I now realize that the answer to overcoming the fear is to replace it with remarkable things you can be proud of. Instead of asking why would anyone want to hire me, ask yourself why not me?

After volunteering you could say. Look at the change I’ve made in the lives of others. Look what I’ve learned along the way. Look at the skills I’ve been taught while helping others. Look at the great people I’ve met. They’ve seen first hand the type of passion I put into any job I take on. So how will this work? I have made a commitment to bring you a volunteering opportunity at least once a week. The process of volunteering can be more complicated than people may think.

Email me your news. I have included in each story all the information I received and the direct contacts to make it really easy for you to get your foot in the door.Network, Network, Network” See how you can use that experience to build your resume. Most of all how did you feel about helping others today.

My goal is to get you to share with all of us your experience. Think about how much we can learn from each other. Please email me your pictures and story to remarkablemarketableme@gmail.com so I can post them each day. I will add the trademarks, video and links for you.

Story by Tymmarie Valderrama

I became aware of Pat Tillman's life and legacy my junior year in high school. In my english class we did a segment on Tillman. Never hearing of him before, he instantly became an inspiration. Those who know me, know that I am not one to really read anything unless I am that interested or inspired. Pat Tillman was worth more than just my time. He was an exceptional human being. The Pat Tillman Foundation was something that caught my eye immediately. Supporting veterans and the community, it is amazing how one individual can start something like this after his death.
Please see below how you can help !

Making a Difference

The Pat Tillman Foundation is a national leader in providing resources and educational scholarship support to veterans, active servicemembers and their dependents. The Tillman Military Scholars program aids all veterans, specifically the ever-growing population of veterans and dependents of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

Our History

In 2002, Pat Tillman proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve his country. This decision was just one of many he made over the course of his lifetime to help others and serve a cause greater than his own self-interest.
Following Pat’s death in 2004, while serving with the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, his family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation.
The mission of the Pat Tillman Foundation is to invest in veterans and their families through education and community.

Tillman Military Scholars

Pat Tillman Foundation awards nearly $1 million to the 3rd class of Tillman Military Scholars.

The Tillman Military Scholars program supports our nation’s active and veteran servicemembers and their families by removing financial barriers to completing a degree or certification program of choice. The scholarships cover not only direct study-related expenses such as tuition and fees, but also other needs, including housing and child care.
Since the program’s inception, the Pat Tillman Foundation has invested over $2.2 million in financial support. These scholarship funds are just a portion of the Tillman Military Scholar experience which also focuses on guiding an engaged community and providing essential resources that enable Scholars to serve and lead in their local communities.
Each year, new Tillman Military Scholars join current and alumni Tillman Military Scholars both online and in-person at the annual Pat Tillman Legacy Summit and subsequent regional gatherings throughout the U.S., as well as, at Pat’s Run each April.
A portion of all Tillman Military Scholars are selected in cooperation with 12 University Partner institutions leading the way in military support services on their campuses. These partners include: Cleveland State University, Columbia University, Mississippi State University, San Diego State University, Texas A&M University, University of Arizona, University of Arkansas, University of Maryland, University of Michigan – Flint, University of Oregon, University of South Florida and University of Wyoming.

Support Our Mission

With over 2 million individuals serving since September 11, 2001 and over 300,000 troops returning to school or work annually, the community needs to be made aware of the increasing demand on the limited amount of educational resources available to military families and the challenges they experience as they transition back to civilian life. The Pat Tillman Foundation is focusing its efforts on becoming the national leader in providing resources and educational support to this deserving group.
With your support, the Pat Tillman Foundation strives to increase the amount of funds awarded nationally each year to $3.6 million, representing the NFL contract Pat walked away from when he enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Below are a few ways you can join our efforts today. Please call 480.621.4074 to receive additional information regarding sponsorship opportunities associated with Pat’s Run, Team Tillman and the Pat Tillman Legacy Summit, planned gifts and third party fundraisers.
